What happens to our STRs in the “off” season?
Ever wonder what goes on with Short Term Rentals (STRs) during their “off” season? Do they just sit empty? We at Reuben Rentals & Realty keep pretty busy through the fall and winter months, so we thought we’d share a little bit about what goes on here on Lake Norman this time of year and how you might choose this season to enjoy one of our many properties. We hope to earn your business for your next short- or mid-term stay and would love to be the answer to whatever travel problem you’ve got that needs solving!
While the boats, kayaks, and jet skis may be dwindling on Lake Norman as the weather cools down, there are plenty of travelers joining us this fall for short term stays. Just this past month, we have hosted or taken reservations for:
- Parents and families of local college students visiting for parents’ weekends
- Families of fall athletes coming to see them play
- Fall wedding guests…and even a BRIDE who needed a space to get ready and enjoy time with her wedding party on her special day!
- A golf trip
- Grandparents coming to visit their children and grandchildren
- Business travelers who prefer a few more comforts of home than a hotel has to offer
- Concert goers
- A girls’ weekend of local orchards and wineries
- A mother/daughter trip to visit a daughter/sister and a new baby
- Thanksgiving/Christmas holiday travelers (Got plans for December 5,6,&7? Get in the holiday spirit and join us for Christmas in Davidson! You’ll be glad you did!)
Just because it doesn’t feel like time for a vacation doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a quick getaway to spend time with some of your favorite people, and we’d love to host your group, no matter the occasion!
Something else that’s become pretty common this time of year is the mid-term rental. During the fall and winter months, we often open up our short term rentals for longer stay opportunities. With vacation travel a bit quieter, we often have more availability and more affordable pricing to offer guests who need a home away from home to rent for a few weeks to a few months at a time. We are excited to have been able to host recent mid-term stays for:
- Families looking to relocate to the area who need a home base while they explore and find a perfect home
- Grandparents on an extended grandchildren visit who prefer their own space
- Parents of a college athlete who spend a LOT of time in town during football season
- Families who needed a haven away from their local home undergoing extensive repairs/construction
- A couple on a “test visit” to Lake Norman…they think they’d like to move here, but they wanted to be sure
- Families waiting patiently for their newly built home to be ready for occupancy
- Families displaced by the destruction of Hurricane Helene who needed a clean place to stay with power and water during restoration efforts
Mid-term rentals are amazing uses of our typically short term rental properties during the off season months, and we love seeing guests enjoy them for all sorts of longer stays in our area!
Of course, we take time during quieter periods to do a little extra maintenance. You might see us checking linens and towels for wear, servicing HVAC systems, repairing/replacing household items, tightening faucets and knobs, and completing deep cleaning tasks on our properties to ensure they are always in the best condition possible for our guests.
We also enjoy seeing many of our property owners who are also friends! Many of them share their properties with guests for most of the busy season, but love to come back and enjoy their Lake Norman properties when fall arrives. Some visit local family. Some enjoy our local golf courses, wineries, farms, and other fall happenings. Some will still be found out on the water, no matter what, even in the cold, but they all know you don’t have to be out on a boat to enjoy the lake.
If you’ve ever curled up with a sweatshirt and a warm cup of coffee on a crisp and quiet fall morning and watched the sun sparkle on the still surface of Lake Norman…well…IYKYK. And if you don’t, we recommend booking your fall getaway to one of our properties ASAP!
